THE ANTIQUE PAINTING COLLECTION:
The most important feature of the collection is a substantial group of works
by Lorenzo Lotto carried out between 1512 and 1535 for the churches of S. Francesco
al Monte and S. Floriano.
The large altar-piece of the Deposition is dated 1512 when the artist, having
returned from a stay in Rome, created his own extremely personal pictorial style,
as different from the pomp of the Pope's court as it was from the explosions
of colour of its contemporary Venetian painting.
The Madonna of the Roses, dated 1526, is one of the most important interpretations
on the theme dedicated to Our Lady so dear to the Venetian artist. The lunette
of a Franciscan theme constitutes one of the rare nocturnes of 16th century
Italian art.
The altar-piece of S. Lucia, with the three predellas telling the story of her
martyrdom, is one of the artist's masterpieces. Signed and dated "L.Lotus
1532" it was commissioned in 1523 by the brotherhood of S. Lucia, but it
was completed only after tormented and contrasting vicissitudes. It constitutes
a deep and painfully reached meditation on the nature of holiness.
The theme of the Visitation (1531-35) is mainly feminine and the scene, of an
intimist nature, is set in a homely environment.
The Pietà of Nicola di Maestro Antonio di Ancona (1480 a.), which is
reminiscent of Crivelli's works, comes from the church of S. Marco and shows
an expressionistic style that has a strong emotional impact.
As well as the above mentioned works, the picture gallery contains interesting paintings by artists such as Pomarancio, Carlo Cignali, Giacomo del Po, Cristoforo Unterperger, Alessandro Tiarini, Antonio Sarti, Pietro Paolo Agabiti, Giuliano Presutti, Francesco Trevisani, Carlo Maratta, Domenico Valeri, G.B. Battista Langetti, Francesco Albani.
THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART COLLECTION:
This
collection has been put together since the second half of the 19th century,
above all, thanks to the donations of the artists and art collectors who have
gradually added to the consistency of the collection over the years.
The most significant group is made up of a donation made by the late Jesi artist
Orfeo Tamburi who bequeathed 54 works including drawings, watercolours, gouache
paintings and prints of the period 1948 - 1963.
The modern and contemporary art section is mainly composed of works by local
born artists or artists working in Vallesina, such as: Corrado Corradi, Betto
Tesei, Luigi Mancini, Luigi Amici, Giovanni Fazi, Leopoldo Battistini, Francesco
Tamburini, Luigi Bartolini.
The collection also includes works that are not necessarily associated with
the town. This is mainly due to the prize set up in 1975 by Orfeo Tamburi, dedicated
to the memory of his mother Rosa Papa. Over the years the prize has been awarded
to some of the most important 20th century artists such as: Guttuso, Guidi,
Cantatore, Paolucci, Sassu, Mattioli, Trubbiani, Piacesi, Morlotti, Biancini,
Ciarrocchi, Brindisi, Vespignani, Cassinari, Giuffrè, Gilardi, Bodini.
Other works of contemporary artists have been acquired over the years as a result of donations and purchases. Amongst the many paintings there are also works by Pistoletto, Galliani, Ontani, Nino Caffè, Luigi Montanarini, Augusto De Stasio, Gualtiero Nativi, Ruiz Pipò.
